The Met Gala made its Chappell Roan debut, welcoming the critically acclaimed pop star known for her audacious style to fashion’s biggest night.
The “Pink Pony Club” singer arrived donning a pink patchwork suit and cape. In true “Midwestern Princess” fashion, the pop star rocked her eccentric makeup from her glittery eyebrows to silvery, jumbled eyeshadow style.
The 27-year-old’s appearance comes after she won her first Grammy in the best new artist category earlier this year, following her burst into the mainstream thanks to her debut album. At the 67th Grammy Awards ceremony, the Missouri-based singer wore a feather-like hat and a Jean Paul Gaultier dress.
Chappell Roan speaks out in support of LGBTQ+ community
Chappell’s fashion has heavily leaned into her LGBTQ+ identity, often taking inspiration from drag queens.
She has stood in solidarity with the trans community even at this year’s Met Gala, where she told Variety she vowed to “protect the dolls.”
The phrase is used to express support for trans women, who are sometimes referred to as dolls.
Other pop stars in attendance this year included Sabrina Carpenter, Lorde and Charli XCX.
