Cecily Strong is back as Jeanine Pirro on “Saturday Night Live”!

The former “SNL” cast member, who left the show in 2022, returned on the May 10 episode to reprise one of her most beloved roles. In the cold open, President Donald Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) announced that he has named “one of the loudest people I know,” Pirro, as interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C.

“I’m so proud to be part of this group full of Russian assets, booze hounds and people famous for the little baby animals they’ve killed,” said Strong’s Pirro, referring to the Trump administration, while holding a glass of wine.

Johnson’s Trump proclaimed the former Fox News host “has the most important quality I look for in a lawyer: She’s on TV.”

Pirro and Trump were soon joined by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, played by “Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost. Jost’s Hegseth noted he has promised to never have a bottle of alcohol touch his lips, but he gave Pirro one so she would do a spit take after hearing surprising news. “I accidentally added (North Korean leader) Kim Jong Un to the group chat,” he said, leading Strong to spit a drink directly into Jost’s mouth.

The cold open started off with a Mother’s Day theme with members of the cast taking to the stage with their moms, as they have done in past years. But this time, they were interrupted by Johnson’s Trump, who walked in to declare he is “invading all aspects of your life.”

Before introducing Pirro, Trump riffed on the election of Pope Leo XIV and, in a meta moment, criticized the show for not making that the theme of the cold open. “There’s a new pope from Chicago. Why aren’t we doing ‘da Pope’ or something?” he asked. “Like ‘da Bears’ but ‘da prayers,’ you know what I mean?”

Walton Goggins dances with his mom in Mother’s Day monologue

In honor of Mother’s Day, host Walton Goggins paid tribute to his mom during his “SNL” monologue.

After joking about becoming a sex symbol at age 53, the “White Lotus” star got sincere to reflect on his upbringing and note that his mother, who raised him with her sisters and his grandmother, is “the most important person in my life.”

“Growing up, whenever my momma couldn’t afford a babysitter, she would take me with her to honky-tonks,” Goggins said. So the actor invited his mother, who was seated in the audience, to come up and join him for a dance.

‘Weekend Update’ anchor Colin Jost mocks complaints new pope is ‘too woke’

The “SNL” cold open may not have been about the election of Pope Leo, the first American pope, but the news kicked off “Weekend Update.”

Anchor Colin Jost joked that “as an American Catholic, I could not be more proud, which is a sin and now I’m ashamed.” He also quipped, “This pick was actually a welcome surprise for me because when I heard the pope was a super-religious guy from Chicago in a funny robe, I was worried it was Kanye.”

Jost went on to mock complaints “that this pope is too woke”: “How woke can a 69-year-old man from Chicago be? It’s not like he came out and was like, ‘Hey, I’m Pope Leo XIV, he/him.’”

“The reality is there are no woke Catholics,” Jost added. “If you’re a woke Catholic, you’re just not Catholic anymore.”

Colin Jost cracks brutal Harry and Meghan joke on ‘SNL’

“Weekend Update” also included a dig at Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan.

While discussing Trump’s trade deal with the United Kingdom, Jost said the agreement will “reopen British markets for American companies.” A photo of Harry and Meghan appeared on screen as he quipped, “All that Britain demands in return is that we keep these two.”

“SNL” will return for its Season 50 finale on May 17, hosted by Jost’s wife, Scarlett Johansson, with musical guest Bad Bunny.
