Zoinks! Netflix releasing live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series
What the emojis in Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’ mean
Since its release, Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’ has sparked widespread discussion, offering a chilling look at the impact of the internet and social media on children.
unbranded – Entertainment
- Netflix announced the plot for its new live-action “Scooby-Doo” series on Wednesday.
- The eight-episode series will explore the origin of the Mystery Inc. gang.
- A cast nor release date has yet to be announced.
Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you? We’ve got a Netflix series to watch now.
On Wednesday, Netflix announced that it will be soon be distributing the first-ever live-action “Scooby-Doo” television series, with a story set before the Mystery Inc. gang officially got together. In over more than 50 years, the “Scooby-Doo” characters and stories have yet to be seen as a live-action series, brought to life only in animated shows and three live-action movies.
Here’s what we know about Netflix’s newly announced “Scooby Doo” series.
What is the new ‘Scooby-Doo’ series about?
The new series will serve as an origin story for the Mystery Inc. gang, all based on the original Hanna-Barbera characters. Here’s what Netflix has to say about it:
“During their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever-so-handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Who’s acting in the new ‘Scooby-Doo’ series?
Netflix has not announced who will be playing the main lineup of characters in the new live-action series.
When does the new live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series release?
A release date has yet to be announced for Netflix’s new “Scooby-Doo” live-action series.
Who is creating the series?
The series is being spearheaded by Midnight Radio, a Los Angeles-based production company led by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg. Midnight Radio has recently worked on the live-action remake of “Cowboy Bebop” for Netflix, the series “High Fidelity” for Hulu and the drama series “Everything Sucks” for Netflix.
Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman of Berlanti Productions, in addition to Midnight Radio’s André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner are also working on the series.
What are fans saying?
First and foremost, fans are pleading for the return of the cast from the 2002 “Scooby-Doo” movie and the 2004 sequel “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed”: Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne and Linda Cardellini as Velma.
TikTok user Jake Lubbehusen said Netflix’s description of the series, which includes mention of a “supernatural murder,” makes him think the series may be geared to an older audience.
“We might me looking at more of an adult-oriented type show, which honestly, I am here for,” Lubbehusen said in a TikTok video.
But others aren’t so sure.
TikTok user Miko said in a video that if the series centers around a “Great Dane puppy,” he expects the Mystery Inc. gang to be kids, to follow the correct timeline.
“I hope this is what they do because I feel like it’ll be kind of weird to have a puppy Scooby-Doo while the rest of Mystery Inc. are older teens,” Miko said in his video.
Some fans are concerned what Netflix means by a “modern reimagining,” fearful of HBO’s two-season series, “Velma.” The origin story of the Mystery Inc. character has been criticized by fans for skewing away from the original “Scooby-Doo” storyline.
“In a world where our most current ‘Scooby-Doo’ content is ‘Velma’ and that’s just pure trash, I’m willing to to accept a live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series on Netflix,” TikTok user Cris Parker, known online as C3 Films, said in a TikTok video.

Rita Braver to retire from CBS News after 50 years
Lester Holt, Joy Reid leave TV anchor gigs amid shuffling lineups
Joy Reid and Lester Holt are the latest to leave their positions as television news adjusts to changing audience habits.
After 50 years on CBS News, where she “grew up” as a journalist, Rita Braver is heading into retirement.
The award-winning “CBS Sunday Morning” national correspondent will retire at the end of March, per a memo that Rand Morrison, the program’s executive producer, sent to staff Wednesday.
“It’s time to share some news that most of us already know but are reluctant to accept. Our beloved, longtime Sunday Morning colleague… national correspondent Rita Braver will retire at the end of this month,” Morrison’s memo, which was obtained by USA TODAY, began.
“Those who know Rita and Sunday Morning realize how essential she’s been to our work. … To call it this end of an era barely does justice to the challenges we’ll face now that we can no longer pick up the phone and call on Rita,” the note continued.
Braver embarked on her broadcast journalism career at the New Orleans CBS affiliate WWL-TV and was hired as a news desk editor at CBS News’ Washington bureau in 1972. She worked her way up to chief White House correspondent in 1993, then was named a national correspondent in 1997
During her tenure, she worked on programs such as “48 Hours,” “Street Stories,” “Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel,” “Face the Nation” and “CBS Evening News with Dan Rather.” She contributed “Eye on America” segments for “CBS Evening News,” where she also served as chief law correspondent from 1983 to 1993.
Braver, who has interviewed big names from former Presidents Bill Clinton to Gloria Steinem, U.S. Rep John Lewis, Barbra Streisand, James Taylor and Sheryl Crow, celebrated a half century with the broadcaster in 2022.
“Over the years, I got to cover some of the biggest events of my lifetime, starting – when I was just an apprentice on the news desk – with Watergate,” she said in a “CBS Sunday Morning” segment that aired May 15, 2022. “When I started, we shot our stories on 16 millimeter film. If we needed to call in from the field, we had to find a pay phone. There were no computers, much less internet. Yet, we got our stories in every day.”
She concluded the segment by saying, “That first day was really the beginning of my 50-year love-affair with CBS News. Like my marriage, which started about the same time, it’s had its highs and lows, some exasperating moments, and some too magical to ever forget.
“Yet, I count myself lucky, after all these years, to have the kind of job I always dreamed about.”

Pamela Anderson’s father has cancer, underwent successful surgery
Pamela Anderson reveals surprising fact about her current fashion
Pamela Anderson chats with USA TODAY’s Ralphie Aversa before receiving a Muse Award at the New York Women in Film and Television gala.
NEW YORK — While accepting an honor from a women’s film and TV association Wednesday, actress Pamela Anderson revealed her father recently underwent successful cancer surgery.
“I first need to apologize for my uncertainty these last few weeks,” Anderson, 57, opened her speech before referencing her father Barry’s health. “My father was undergoing cancer surgery and I couldn’t have anticipated being here unless all went smoothly and my parents had all they needed. The good news is he’s OK.”
Anderson, who earned nominations at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards for “The Last Showgirl,” received a Muse Award at the New York Women in Film and Television gala in Manhattan. The original list of honorees, which also included “Wicked” actress Marissa Bode and CNN executive vice president Amy Entelis, was announced on March 6. Anderson’s participation in the ceremony was revealed almost a week later.
Anderson went on to thank the kindness of the doctors and nurses at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, adding that the healthcare workers did so, “in a blessed and generous Canadian healthcare system that make them feel safe.” The actress moved back to her hometown of Vancouver Island in 2020.
“I’m the child of a low income family,” she continued. “If you haven’t been there, it’s hard to grasp the importance of universal free and fair healthcare. It’s a taxpayer’s human right.”
Pamela Anderson calls ‘vanity’ a ‘prison’
In her acceptance speech, Anderson said her move back home brought on “the best part of my life.”
“I may have cracked the code,” she continued. “Vanity is a prison. Now I’m looking forward to the next project fearlessly with plenty to draw from. My pockets are full. I’m finally capable of being a fully available collaborator and I’m grateful that I’ve been given this chance at redemption.”
Anderson’s upcoming projects include the “Naked Gun” reboot, the drama-thriller “Rosebush Pruning” and the drama “Places to Be.”
Pamela Anderson confirms gifting Millie Bobby Brown clothes
Anderson recently found herself in the headlines for her own generosity.
Actress Millie Bobby Brown revealed on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that Anderson gifted Brown “a whole rack of clothes” for a recent press tour. Anderson told USA TODAY she was never on the receiving end of such a gesture.
“I did it all on my own. I was just having a good time,” the actress reflects on her fashion. “No stylist back then. No stylist now, actually!”

CMA Fest’s growing global reach, attendance
For the 22nd consecutive year, CMA Fest will again be filmed for a national television special on ABC and Hulu this summer. The special will be executive produced, written by Robert Deaton and directed by Alan Carter.
What began in 1972 as Fan Fair has jumped to welcome 20 times as many country music fans to the genre’s longest-running festival in the world. That includes thousands of fans from all 50 states and nearly 50 countries.
In 2024, over 90,000 Nashville tourists, locals, country music fans and musicians flooded the streets over the weekend for CMA Fest.
“This year’s CMA Fest has truly been a celebration of community and collaboration,” CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern said in a statement.
“From country icons returning to the fest stage to emerging acts reaching new audiences for the first time, seeing the fans and the industry embrace our genre in such a meaningful way has been the perfect way to kick off our next 50 years.”

When is ‘Hacks’ Season 4? Premiere date, cast, where to watch
The most anticipated TV shows of 2025
USA TODAY TV critic Kelly Lawler shares her top 5 TV shows she is most excited for this year
The chaotic duo is back with tensions on the rise between Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) as they “endeavor to get their late night show off the ground and make history doing it,” in Season 4 of the series set to return next month.
The award-winning and critically acclaimed comedy, which explores the dark mentorship between a legendary stand-up comedian and young, entitled comedy writer, is created by Emmy-award winners Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsk, who also serve as showrunners.
USA TODAY TV critic Kelly Lawler gave the previous season ★★★½, writing: “After a slightly lackluster second season in 2022, which seemed to tie up the story in a bow too soon, creators Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky found the right way to continue the series about an aging comedienne and her young writer.”
“And while so many other shows go dark and depressing, ‘Hacks’ has delightfully chosen joy, and (of course) some insult comedy from [Jean] Smart’s Deborah Vance,” she added.
While the verdict is not yet in for Season 4 of “Hacks,” here’s what to know about the upcoming season including premiere date, time and cast. (P.S. Max promises Season 4 will be full of exciting surprise cameos.)

Alec Baldwin movie drops first footage after shooting
Alec Baldwin ‘Rust’ case dismissed by judge over ‘suppressed’ evidence
Alec Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter charge was abruptly dismissed with prejudice. He cannot be retried for involuntary manslaughter.
The troubled Alec Baldwin movie “Rust” is set for release more than three years after its cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on set, and the first footage has arrived.
A trailer for the Western was released Wednesday, teasing a look at Baldwin in the lead role of outlaw Harland Rust.
“Rust” takes place in the 1880s and follows an orphaned boy, played by Patrick Scott McDermott, who is sentenced to hang after he accidentally kills a rancher.
“In a twist of fate, his estranged grandfather,” Baldwin’s Harland Rust, “breaks him out of jail and takes him on the run toward Mexico,” according to the official plot synopsis. “As they flee across the unforgiving wilderness, the fugitive pair must outrun the determined U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Josh Hopkins) and a ruthless bounty hunter named ‘Preacher’ (Travis Fimmel).”
The trailer was first revealed by People magazine, which reported that the film will be released on May 2 in select theaters and on digital platforms. The movie completed production in 2023 after a prop gun Baldwin was holding accidentally went off and fatally struck Hutchins in 2021.
Baldwin has said he was told the gun he was holding during rehearsal on “Rust” did not contain any live rounds and that he did not pull the trigger prior to the accident, which also injured director Joel Souza.
The “30 Rock” star was charged with involuntary manslaughter, but the case was dismissed in July over allegations that prosecutors suppressed evidence. In January, Baldwin filed a lawsuit alleging prosecutors violated his civil rights and defamed him.
The armorer on “Rust,” Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was sentenced to 18 months in prison in April for involuntary manslaughter.
“Rust” finished production in 2023, with Bianca Cline being brought on as cinematographer, after Baldwin settled a wrongful death lawsuit with Hutchins’ family in 2022. Part of the settlement was that Hutchins’ widow, Matthew Hutchins, would serve as an executive producer.
“I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work,” Hutchins said at the time.
“Rust” premiered in November at a Polish film festival without Baldwin in attendance. Hutchins’ mother, Olga Solovey, criticized the premiere, saying in a statement, “Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death.” A representative for Rust Movie Productions told USA TODAY at the time that the “decision to complete ‘Rust’ was made with the full support of Halyna’s family.”
According to Deadline, the movie ends with a tribute to Hutchins that reads, “For Halyna.”

Marvel stream teases ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ cast: Channing Tatum, more
Robert Downey Jr. unveiled as Doctor Doom at Comic-Con
Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to Marvel in the 2026 film “Avengers: Doomsday,” playing the iconic villain Doctor Doom.
Avengers, reassemble!
Marvel unveiled the star-studded cast of “Avengers: Doomsday” during a livestream event on Wednesday, with each actor being revealed one at a time with a glimpse at the back of their director’s chair.
The announcement lasted more than five hours and concluded with Robert Downey Jr., who will play the villainous Doctor Doom in the highly anticipated film, walking out to sit in his chair and make a shushing motion while looking at the camera.
The cast list indicates “Doomsday,” which is now in production and arrives next year, will be an ambitious crossover between Marvel’s “Avengers” franchise and the “X-Men” series, with numerous original “X-Men” stars returning to reprise their roles for the first time in years. But the stacked cast includes actors from virtually every corner of the Marvel world, from the Fantastic Four to the Thunderbolts and everyone in between.
Marvel films typically keep some surprise cameos under wraps, meaning the epic list of stars may not even be complete. Reports previously indicated Captain America actor Chris Evans would be returning for “Doomsday,” but he was absent from the announcement stream. Other Marvel stars notably missing from the list included Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
Channing Tatum’s Gambit to return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
He’s about to make a name for himself once again. Channing Tatum was included on Wednesday’s cast list, implying he’ll be back as his X-Men character Gambit.
Tatum’s Gambit was a scene-stealer in last summer’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which poked fun at the fact that the actor spent years working on a Gambit spinoff movie that never materialized. A deleted scene confirmed Gambit survived the events of the film, and Tatum had been open about wanting to continue in the role.
Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are back together again in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
It’s an Asgardian reunion! Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston will both appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” as Thor and Loki, respectively, marking the first time the longtime “Thor” co-stars will be in a Marvel movie together since “Avengers: Endgame.”
After the original version of Loki was killed off in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” Hiddleston returned as an alternate version of the character in the Disney+ show “Loki,” which debuted in 2021. But Loki has yet to reunite with Hemsworth’s Thor, who was last seen in 2022’s “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will be an ‘X-Men’ reunion: Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, more returning
That won’t be the only Marvel reunion in “Avengers: Doomsday,” as the film is also getting the “X-Men” gang back together.
“X-Men” stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen have both been added to the cast, presumably playing Charles Xavier and Magneto, respectively.
Stewart last played the role of Professor X in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” in which a version of the character was murdered by Scarlet Witch. But this would be McKellen’s first time back as Magneto since 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
“Avengers: Doomsday” will also reunite original “X-Men” stars Alan Cumming, who played Nightcrawler; Rebecca Romijn, who played Mystique; James Marsden, who played Cyclops; and Kelsey Grammer, who played Beast and had a surprise cameo in the credits of “The Marvels” in 2023.
Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, more Marvel stars join ‘Doomsday’
Outside of the “X-Men” roles, all four members of the Fantastic Four have been confirmed for the film: Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn and Pedro Pascal. They will debut as Sue Storm, Ben Grimm, Johnny Storm and Reed Richards, respectively, in this summer’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”
“Avengers: Doomsday” will also star Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Lewis Pullman as Bob from “Thunderbolts.”
It’s unclear which of these characters will be official members of the Avengers, as the team had not yet been reformed by the end of Marvel’s latest film “Captain America: Brave New World.”
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will be a ‘new beginning’ for Marvel
Despite consisting of nothing but a row of chairs for many hours, Marvel’s stream maintained a consistent audience of millions of viewers throughout and an active YouTube chat where fans attempted to guess which name would be revealed next.
Downey was previously announced to return for “Avengers: Doomsday,” though in a surprise twist, he’s playing the villain Doctor Doom. It’s unclear whether Downey’s Doom will have any connection to his previous Marvel character of Tony Stark, who died in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”
“Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo are returning to direct “Doomsday,” which will be followed one year later by “Avengers: Secret Wars,” also directed by the Russos. In an interview with Omelete, the duo teased that while “Endgame” represented an ending for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the next two “Avengers” films will accomplish the opposite.
“What’s compelling about these two new ‘Avengers’ movies is they’re a beginning,” Joe Russo said. “It’s a new beginning. So we told an ending story, now we’re going to tell a beginning story.”
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ full cast list
The following stars were revealed as part of the “Avengers: Doomsday” cast on Wednesday:
- Chris Hemsworth
- Vanessa Kirby
- Anthony Mackie
- Sebastian Stan
- Letitia Wright
- Paul Rudd
- Wyatt Russell
- Tenoch Huerta Mejía
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach
- Simu Liu
- Florence Pugh

TikTok rallies behind author Jonathan Stanley after viral video
What if no one showed up to your book signing?
When author Jonathan Stanley set up shop at Barnes & Noble to promote his book, “Purposeful Performance: The Secret Mix of Connecting, Leading, and Succeeding,” only 10 or 15 people stopped to chat with him. But when a mom posted the scene to TikTok, readers across the world showed up – over 70 million of them.
“This sweet man is sitting at B&N with a stack of his books he wrote and my heart is breaking everytime someone passes him,” Pennsylvania-based mom and content creator Taylor Dinelli wrote in her video.
Now, “Purposeful Performance,” which Stanley self-published in August 2024, has skyrocketed to the No. 1 bestseller on Amazon’s Strategic Management section and No. 4 in business overall.
After small act of kindness, millions show up for author
The catalyst behind the viral video? A four-year-old.
It was Dinelli’s daughter Ella who inspired her to post the video and go up to Stanley’s table to talk. Ella dreams of becoming an author, which she told Stanley when they bought his book and he signed it for her.
“He had told her that the biggest gift you could ever give somebody is being yourself, which I thought was so sweet,” Dinelli tells USA TODAY. “I had just posted that TikTok thinking maybe it would encourage a couple people to go up to authors at book signings if they saw that happening. I never in a million years could have imagined that it would have become what it became.”
When Stanley first got to Barnes & Noble that day, he said a fellow author was one of the first people to stop by his table. “I’ve sat in this chair for four hours and I sold one book,” they told him, tempering his expectations. But even with only a handful of conversations that day, Stanley wasn’t deterred. He even posted to LinkedIn to share about the four-year-old who came up to him with “courage” – at the time, he didn’t realize the same child’s mom had also posted a video that was quickly blowing up.
“I said to her, ‘Thank you for your courage, and when you publish your first book, I’m going to be the first person standing in line to buy it,” Stanley tells USA TODAY.
From around the world, social media users reacted to Dinelli’s video.
“He had no idea that the day he felt the most unseen would be the day that millions paid attention and supported him. I like humans a lot sometimes,” one commented.
Stanley started his own account in response to the outpouring of kindness. In just two days, he’s amassed over 670,000 followers.
“I’ve received thousands of messages – so many I can’t keep up. Words of encouragement. Stories of hope. Notes from people who said the book changed their perspective … helped them become better leaders … and reminded them of the importance of bringing humanity back into the workplace,” Stanley wrote on TikTok.
Stanley wrote book ‘to make a difference in someone’s life’
Stanley, a business strategy consultant and coach, began writing “Purposeful Performance” after he lost his job in 2023. But he was proud of the “purpose-driven” company he’d helped build. He wants managers to lead with empathy, turning direct reports into “direct support.” The book offers a strategic plan for businesses to motivate team members.
“The American workforce is broken in so many ways,” he says. “I’ve talked to so many people who are disengaged at work. They feel unheard, unseen and undervalued. So it was really important for me to write a book about bringing humanity back into the workplace.”
Helping readers create a purpose-driven ethos for their company, Stanley’s book helps managers to lead with empathy and “do goodness in the world.”
“The best kept secret is that if you lead with empathy at the heart of everything you do, you can and will be successful,” Stanley says.
Fitting, then, that four-year-old Ella asked Dinelli if there was a way they could continue helping people like Stanley. Dinelli has been pulling out a globe to show her daughter how widespread the support on the video is, pointing at different places around the world where commenters are from.
Now, she’s starting a “Sunday Spotlight” series where she’ll promote an author, small creator or small business to her nearly 40,000 followers to rally behind.
“Even if we can do a fraction, a tenth of what we did for Mr. Stanley, I think it could change someone’s life. And I really think TikTok is the place (where) that can happen,” Dinelli says. She adds, “That’s what we were put on this Earth to do, is to be there for one another.”
