Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo and dandyism at the 2025 Met Gala

The blue carpet was ablaze with Black style as the Met Gala worked to shrug off a complicated racial history with a tailor-made theme.

Aimed in part at honoring the late fashion journalist André Leon Talley and the rich tradition of Black dandyism, the theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” offered designers and celebrity attendees the chance to pay tribute to the polished silhouettes, tailored suits and structured styles that define the figure.

Co-chaired by racing legend Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, film star Colman Domingo and music producer Pharrell Williams, the class of hosts reflected modern Black sartorial genius and the culmination of centuries of style.

    Lewis Hamilton in all-white everything

Fresh off the Grand Prix in Miami, Hamilton sported a head-to-toe white look on the Met Gala’s famed steps.

Crisp and spotless the look, designed by Wales Bonner, was also a tribute to jazz great Cab Calloway and the style born of the Harlem Renaissance.

In an elegant ivory suit, layered over a bright white shirt and bow-tie, Hamilton brought dandyism to life, pairing the light cloth with a beret and several brooches, which he said in an interview with Vogue were a tribute to “the power of adornment” in African culture.

    A$AP Rocky

Rocky, long thought of as a free thinker in the fashion world, took the “tailored” theme to new heights by wearing his own design to the Gala.

Wearing a custom design from his own agency, AWGE, Rocky gave outerwear a high-fashion makeover, transforming the classic New York puffer jacket into a slim-fitting suit coat atop a vest and tie. He later told Vogue it was a tribute to his native Harlem, where teens often sported Marmot coats.

    Colman Domingo

Domingo put on a sartorial spectacle with a two-part look exuding the fashion whimsy that has made him a red-carpet darling − and, in the eyes of some, the quintessential modern-day dandy.

The Oscar-nominated actor wore an opulent royal blue gown on the red carpet that boasted an enlarged, sparkly collar. He then followed up the look with a more understated — but equally fabulous — ensemble featuring a pearl-embroidered blazer, polka-dotted handkerchief tie and floral brooch.

Earlier in the day, during a media preview for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute spring exhibit “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, Domingo remembered three men who shaped his sense of fashion: his brother, stepfather and biological father.

Perhaps the flashiest of the three was his father, also named Colman, whose wardrobe ranged from “white, very tight, Italian flared trousers” to “preacher robes that showed another part of him where he was representing the Lord.”

    Pharrell Wiliams

Williams, a mastermind behind many major hits in the music industry, has turned his eye to fashion in recent years, taking on the mantle of creative director for menswear at Louis Vuitton.

Williams also designed his own look, in coordination with the team at Louis Vuitton, walking the carpet in a pearl-encrusted blazer that Vogue reports took 980 hours to make.

Pairing the blazer with flared slacks, blacked out shades and a classic dress shirt, Williams’ look was at once singular and classic.

Bad Bunny attends Met Gala after announcing world tour

Bad Bunny is booked and busy, but there’s always time for el estilo.

The Grammy-winning reggaeton superstar, who announced a new world tour on May 5, took a break from his music gig to attend the 2025 Met Gala. The red-carpet appearance marks a fashion comeback for the singer born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, who served as a co-chair for the 2024 Met Gala.

Bad Bunny gave a playful Puerto Rican twist to the Black dandy theme with a crisp espresso brown suit. He paired the ensemble with a brimmed hat resembling a pava, a traditional straw hat made from leaves of the Puerto Rican hat palm.

At the 2024 Met Gala, Bad Bunny stunned in a suave navy-blue Maison Margiela Artisanal suit by John Galliano, which he topped off with a plush hat and matching floral bouquet, reflecting the gala’s nature-inspired dress code of “The Garden of Time.”

The Met Gala appearance comes as Bad Bunny is gearing up for No Me Quiero Ir De Aquí, a concert residency in his native Puerto Rico set to kick off July 11.

Later this year, the singer will also embark on a world tour across Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Chappell Roan makes 2025 Met Gala rebut in magenta suit

The Met Gala made its Chappell Roan debut, welcoming the critically acclaimed pop star known for her audacious style to fashion’s biggest night.

The “Pink Pony Club” singer arrived donning a pink patchwork suit and cape. In true “Midwestern Princess” fashion, the pop star rocked her eccentric makeup from her glittery eyebrows to silvery, jumbled eyeshadow style.

The 27-year-old’s appearance comes after she won her first Grammy in the best new artist category earlier this year, following her burst into the mainstream thanks to her debut album. At the 67th Grammy Awards ceremony, the Missouri-based singer wore a feather-like hat and a Jean Paul Gaultier dress.

Chappell Roan speaks out in support of LGBTQ+ community

Chappell’s fashion has heavily leaned into her LGBTQ+ identity, often taking inspiration from drag queens.

She has stood in solidarity with the trans community even at this year’s Met Gala, where she told Variety she vowed to “protect the dolls.”

The phrase is used to express support for trans women, who are sometimes referred to as dolls.

Other pop stars in attendance this year included Sabrina Carpenter, Lorde and Charli XCX.

Kim Kardashian, Kylie and Kendall Jenner at Met Gala: See the looks

    play

The Kardashians are keeping up with the Met Gala.

Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner all turned out — and turned heads — for fashion’s biggest night at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5. Their outfits showed how the reality stars interpreted the evening’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” and its theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

The sisters arrived as the red (read: blue) carpet was starting to wrap for the night, matching as a family in shades of black and gray.

This was the latest Met Gala for the Kardashian-Jenner clan. They previously stepped out at the 2024 event, which had a dress code of “The Garden of Time” and a theme of “Sleeping Beauties.” That year, Kardashian stunned in a floral Maison Margiela dress, while Kendall wore a sleek Givenchy Haute Couture item, and Kylie opted for Oscar de la Renta.

Scroll through to see how the sisters stunned on the red carpet.

Kim Kardashian rocks low-rise leather skirt for 2025 Met Gala

Kardashian loves a painted-on look, and the 2025 Met Gala was no different. She donned a custom black two-piece leather outfit from Hollywood’s own Chrome Hearts, effectively bringing her hometown of Los Angeles to the Big Apple.

The leather appeared to have a crocodile-like texture.

The bustier-style top complemented a floor-length skirt that featured a short train and was low-cut in the back. Because more is more, she styled it with a massive statement silver necklace and matching wide-brimmed leather hat. Her jewelry was from Moussaieff.

Kardashian is very familiar with sacrificing comfort for a fashion statement.

In an episode of “The Kardashians” that aired earlier this year, Kardashian recalled how she struggled to breathe in the tight dress she wore to the 2024 Met Gala. “I’m literally going to throw up,” she said in footage from the evening. “I’ve never been more comfortable.” Her mother, Kris Jenner, joked on the episode that she asked Kardashian, “Are you ever going to wear a dress to the Met where you actually can walk?”

But Kardashian remarked in an interview on the show, “If you look good, it is all worth it.”

The Kardashians have attended the Met Gala many times, with Kim Kardashian having made her debut in 2013, when she was pregnant with daughter North West.

In 2022, Kardashian famously wore a dress once worn by Marilyn Monroe to the event, where she was joined by her then-boyfriend Pete Davidson. The following year, she wore a custom Schiaparelli ensemble for the 2023 Met Gala, whose theme honored late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

Kendall Jenner honors Harlem Renaissance musician Gladys Bentley

Kendall Jenner sought out fresh blood for her 2025 outfit.

So she turned to up-and-coming British designer Torishéju Dumi, who pulled together a look inspired by Harlem Renaissance musician Gladys Bentley, per British Vogue. The severe-looking dark gray structured blazer featured a peplum flare-out at the bottom and a plunging neckline that was accented by a silver statement necklace, similar to sister Kim.

While loose, the skirt accentuated the runway model’s physique and had a modest train.

Bentley, as described by Smithsonian Magazine in 2019, “was ahead of her time for proudly loving other women, wearing men’s clothing and singing bawdy songs.” She was known for appearing in a three-piece suit and a top hat.

“I had a vision of being very minimal and tailored for this Met, and I went on the hunt to find something interesting and fresh and super exciting to me. Finding a new, young designer was the vision,” Kendall told British Vogue.

The look involved 100 feet of deadstock fabric — “It’s all about using what you have,” Dumi told British Vogue — and 242 hours of work. Dumi explained, “The drama isn’t really in the color. It’s more in the cut and the silhouette.”

Kylie Jenner ‘stole’ the show at 2025 Met Gala

Like older sister Kim, Kylie also opted for a form-fitting bodice.

She arrived on the blue carpet in a dramatic black-and-gray piece from Ferragamo, accompanied by designer Maximilian Davis. The torso portion was sheer black and matched Kylie’s opera gloves. And speaking of accessories, the Kylie Cosmetics founder was wrapped up in a black satin stole that fanned out across the carpet.

  • Sydney Sweeney honors Kim Novak with 2025 Met Gala look

Sydney Sweeney honors Kim Novak with 2025 Met Gala look

For her latest Met Gala appearance, Sydney Sweeney honored Hollywood icon Kim Novak, whom she will play in an upcoming biopic.

In her first collaboration with Miu Miu for fashion’s biggest night, the “Immaculate” star wore a dazzling black beaded gown with short sleeves and a keyhole cutout. On the Met Gala blue carpet, she told Vogue that her fashion look honors Novak, who wore a similar dress in the 1967 melodrama, “The Legend of Lylah Clare.”

“This is my third time going with Miu Miu, and I always feel that they just bring such beautiful stories to every dress. So this is actually paying homage to Kim Novak,” Sweeney told LaLa Anthony. “We wanted to really just bring that to life and I think it’s just such a beautiful story.”

While not necessarily following this year’s theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, Sweeney’s dress also pays homage to this year’s Met Gala co-Chair and her “Euphoria” co-star Colman Domingo.

The Oscar nominee will make his directorial debut with period drama “Scandalous,” starring Sweeney as Novak and “Alien: Romulus” star David Jonsson as singer Sammy Davis Jr.

The film will depict the 1950s love affair between Novak and Davis, according to Variety and Deadline.

Who is hosting Met Gala 2025?

The co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala are singer-songwriter and fashion designer Pharrell Williams, Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo, Grammy-nominated rapper A$AP Rocky and British racecar driver Lewis Hamilton.

Meanwhile, NBA superstar LeBron James will serve as an honorary co-chair, and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour will reprise her presiding co-chair role. James pulled out of the gala today with a knee injury.
