Caitlin Clark talks Taylor Swift

Caitlin Clark is praising “the sweetest person” Taylor Swift.

The Indiana Fever star opened up to ESPN about the music industry mega star ahead of her WNBA regular season opener on May 17.

“I think what people don’t always realize about people with a certain spotlight, whether it’s her, whether it’s me, whether it’s another professional athlete or a pop star, we’re real people,” Clark said about the “Fortnight” hitmaker.

Swift is dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

No. 22 fans and “Swifties” were delighted in January when the A-list duo watched a Chiefs playoff game together at Arrowhead Stadium, and Clark detailed what their conversations were really like.

“We’re just having normal conversations as any other person in Arrowhead Stadium that night. She loves the Chiefs just as much as I do. I’m talking football with her,” Clark told ESPN’s Alexa Philippou in the ESPN piece published May 13. “She loved it, and just like her passion, and honestly, probably one of the sweetest people I’ve ever been around.”

Clark said “everybody says that when you meet (Swift) but it’s really true” because “she just treats everybody with the same amount of kindness, and her family was great.” Since Kelce’s Super Bowl loss and Swift’s Eras Tour ended, the pair have chosen to mostly avoid the spotlight.

Clark is considered by some to be the Swift of women’s basketball — well, at least one teammate — for her ability to draw large crowds and her cult-like following of loyal fans. After being traded to the Fever from the Phoenix Mercury in February, Clark’s teammate and friend Sophie Cunningham jokingly said she “will be her Sabrina Carpenter any day to her Taylor Swift” during a podcast appearance.

Before meeting the 14-time Grammy winner in-person, Clark was a Swift fan herself: she attended the Eras tour alongside some Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball teammates in the summer of 2023.
