  • Why didn’t Taylor Swift, Blake Lively attend the 2025 Met Gala?

Why didn’t Taylor Swift, Blake Lively attend the 2025 Met Gala?

Who missed out on the 2025 Met Gala? Quite a few A-listers.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, and Lady Gaga were among the biggest stars missing at the annual Met Gala in New York City.

The pouring rain in New York on the first Monday of May did not dampen the mood as celebrities arrived at the Met Gala looking their dandiest in line with this year’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” at fashion’s biggest night.

While A-listers, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Rihanna, along with co-chairs Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo were present, notably absent this year were some of the fundraiser’s biggest style icons.

Here are some of the big names who were not seen on the red carpet.

Met Gala darling Blake Lively skips Met Gala amid Justin Baldoni legal drama

Lively, whose film “Another Simple Favor” dropped May 1, skipped the event for the third year in a row amid her ongoing legal battle with actor Justin Baldoni.

The “It Ends With Us” star, 37, has made some solid fashion statements on the famed steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, with one of her most head-turning looks being the Atelier Versace gown she wore to the 2022 Met Gala for the “Gilded Glamour” theme, which – when the train was unveiled – revealed an ode to the Statue of Liberty and its green patina that has formed over its original copper surface.

She and Reynolds were also co-chairs that year.

Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Met Gala debut? Not this year

While anticipation over whether Swift would return to the Met Gala red carpet this year with boyfriend Kelce was high, the duo was a no-show at the event.

Swift, who made her Met Gala debut in 2008, last attended the event in 2016, when she co-chaired the event alongside Jony Ive, Idris Elba, and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

Did Beyoncé take a Cowboy Carter Tour break for the Met Gala?

Once a fixture at the annual gala, Beyoncé has not attended the high-profile event since 2016, when she wore a custom latex Givenchy gown with a constellation of floral and bead embellishments.

The songstress is currently on tour with her long-awaited Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin’ Circuit Tour, which kicked off in Los Angeles on April 28. Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles, meanwhile, was in attendance.

Lebron James, Met Gala co-chair, skips due to injury

LeBron James will have to wait another year to make his Met Gala debut.

The professional basketball player, who was also the honorary chair of the 2025 Met Gala host committee, announced hours before the event that he wouldn’t be in attendance because of the knee injury he suffered when the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA playoff series last week.

His wife, Savannah James, attended. “Hate to miss an historical event! My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!” James had written in a post on X.

Cynthia Erivo attends Met Gala. Was ‘Wicked’ co-star Ariana Grande there?

Cynthia Erivo walked this year’s Met Gala red carpet without her “Wicked” co-star Ariana Grande.

Grande and Erivo, who play Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, in the Oscar-nominated film, appeared on the red carpet together last year as they promoted their film.

Did Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry attend Met Gala?

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have never attended the Met Gala − and this year was no different.

The couple, who moved to the United States in 2020 following a split with the royal family, recently attended the TIME100 summit in New York City.

Black fashion influencer Wisdom Kaye says he wasn’t invited

While the theme for this year’s gala was centered around Black dandyism, defined as a “man unduly devoted to style,” Black fashion influencer and model Wisdom Kaye said he wasn’t invited.

“I was not invited to the met, I know you guys wanna see me there so just letting y’all know,” the model, 24, wrote in a post on X May 4. “Looking forward to seeing all the beautiful interpretations of black dandyism tmrw :).”

Did the Kardashians attend the Met Gala?

Not all the Kardashians are keeping up with the Met Gala this year. Kim Kardashian and sisters Kylie and Kendall Jenner were at the event, but the Kar-Jenner matriarch, Kris Jenner, and daughters Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian skipped the event.

Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker also absent from Met Gala

Also, notably absent this year were Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Jessica Parker, both of whom attended last year and are Met Gala regulars.

Parker, who attended last year’s gala in a Richard Quinn ensemble, told Entertainment Tonight last week she is too busy with work to attend. “I have to work, but there’s gonna be so much to see, and I look forward to seeing what everybody does,” Parker told the media outlet. “And I can’t wait to see how they interpret the theme and the sort of homework they did for the assignment.”

  • Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo and dandyism at the 2025 Met Gala

Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo and dandyism at the 2025 Met Gala

The blue carpet was ablaze with Black style as the Met Gala worked to shrug off a complicated racial history with a tailor-made theme.

Aimed in part at honoring the late fashion journalist André Leon Talley and the rich tradition of Black dandyism, the theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” offered designers and celebrity attendees the chance to pay tribute to the polished silhouettes, tailored suits and structured styles that define the figure.

Co-chaired by racing legend Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, film star Colman Domingo and music producer Pharrell Williams, the class of hosts reflected modern Black sartorial genius and the culmination of centuries of style.

    Lewis Hamilton in all-white everything

Fresh off the Grand Prix in Miami, Hamilton sported a head-to-toe white look on the Met Gala’s famed steps.

Crisp and spotless the look, designed by Wales Bonner, was also a tribute to jazz great Cab Calloway and the style born of the Harlem Renaissance.

In an elegant ivory suit, layered over a bright white shirt and bow-tie, Hamilton brought dandyism to life, pairing the light cloth with a beret and several brooches, which he said in an interview with Vogue were a tribute to “the power of adornment” in African culture.

    A$AP Rocky

Rocky, long thought of as a free thinker in the fashion world, took the “tailored” theme to new heights by wearing his own design to the Gala.

Wearing a custom design from his own agency, AWGE, Rocky gave outerwear a high-fashion makeover, transforming the classic New York puffer jacket into a slim-fitting suit coat atop a vest and tie. He later told Vogue it was a tribute to his native Harlem, where teens often sported Marmot coats.

    Colman Domingo

Domingo put on a sartorial spectacle with a two-part look exuding the fashion whimsy that has made him a red-carpet darling − and, in the eyes of some, the quintessential modern-day dandy.

The Oscar-nominated actor wore an opulent royal blue gown on the red carpet that boasted an enlarged, sparkly collar. He then followed up the look with a more understated — but equally fabulous — ensemble featuring a pearl-embroidered blazer, polka-dotted handkerchief tie and floral brooch.

Earlier in the day, during a media preview for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute spring exhibit “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, Domingo remembered three men who shaped his sense of fashion: his brother, stepfather and biological father.

Perhaps the flashiest of the three was his father, also named Colman, whose wardrobe ranged from “white, very tight, Italian flared trousers” to “preacher robes that showed another part of him where he was representing the Lord.”

    Pharrell Wiliams

Williams, a mastermind behind many major hits in the music industry, has turned his eye to fashion in recent years, taking on the mantle of creative director for menswear at Louis Vuitton.

Williams also designed his own look, in coordination with the team at Louis Vuitton, walking the carpet in a pearl-encrusted blazer that Vogue reports took 980 hours to make.

Pairing the blazer with flared slacks, blacked out shades and a classic dress shirt, Williams’ look was at once singular and classic.

Bad Bunny attends Met Gala after announcing world tour

Bad Bunny is booked and busy, but there’s always time for el estilo.

The Grammy-winning reggaeton superstar, who announced a new world tour on May 5, took a break from his music gig to attend the 2025 Met Gala. The red-carpet appearance marks a fashion comeback for the singer born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, who served as a co-chair for the 2024 Met Gala.

Bad Bunny gave a playful Puerto Rican twist to the Black dandy theme with a crisp espresso brown suit. He paired the ensemble with a brimmed hat resembling a pava, a traditional straw hat made from leaves of the Puerto Rican hat palm.

At the 2024 Met Gala, Bad Bunny stunned in a suave navy-blue Maison Margiela Artisanal suit by John Galliano, which he topped off with a plush hat and matching floral bouquet, reflecting the gala’s nature-inspired dress code of “The Garden of Time.”

The Met Gala appearance comes as Bad Bunny is gearing up for No Me Quiero Ir De Aquí, a concert residency in his native Puerto Rico set to kick off July 11.

Later this year, the singer will also embark on a world tour across Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Chappell Roan makes 2025 Met Gala rebut in magenta suit

The Met Gala made its Chappell Roan debut, welcoming the critically acclaimed pop star known for her audacious style to fashion’s biggest night.

The “Pink Pony Club” singer arrived donning a pink patchwork suit and cape. In true “Midwestern Princess” fashion, the pop star rocked her eccentric makeup from her glittery eyebrows to silvery, jumbled eyeshadow style.

The 27-year-old’s appearance comes after she won her first Grammy in the best new artist category earlier this year, following her burst into the mainstream thanks to her debut album. At the 67th Grammy Awards ceremony, the Missouri-based singer wore a feather-like hat and a Jean Paul Gaultier dress.

Chappell Roan speaks out in support of LGBTQ+ community

Chappell’s fashion has heavily leaned into her LGBTQ+ identity, often taking inspiration from drag queens.

She has stood in solidarity with the trans community even at this year’s Met Gala, where she told Variety she vowed to “protect the dolls.”

The phrase is used to express support for trans women, who are sometimes referred to as dolls.

Other pop stars in attendance this year included Sabrina Carpenter, Lorde and Charli XCX.
