Diddy overdosed in 2012 and was hospitalized, Cassie Ventura testifies

    play

On her third day of testimony, Cassie Ventura Fine revealed the extent of her and Sean “Diddy” Combs’ drug use in their decade together, with Combs at one point hospitalized due to “a very strong” opiate.

While cross-examining Ventura Fine, one of Combs’ lawyers, Anna Estevao, revealed he overdosed on painkillers in 2012. Estevao asked Ventura Fine if she recalled the overdose, and Ventura placed the incident around the same time that Whitney Houston died on Feb. 11, 2012.

Ventura Fine recalled they’d had a “freak off” that night and had gone to a sex club in San Bernardino, California. She said Combs later went to a party at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, but she went home.

Combs overdosed on painkillers, and she took him to the hospital, Ventura Fine told Estevao.

Ventura Fine revealed they had both tried to stop using drugs at times in their relationship, but rehab did not feel like an option for them. They consumed many substances for their “freak offs” and called each other “get-high” partners, she said.

Combs would use drugs “daily,” Ventura Fine testified. On May 14, during questioning from the prosecution, she said she saw Combs use ecstasy, cocaine, marijuana, ketamine and GHB. Combs got prescriptions for opiates from doctors in “anybody’s name … whoever’s name hadn’t been used a lot,” she testified.

She saw Combs experience withdrawal multiple times, and his mood changed on them, she told the court.

USA TODAY has reached out to Combs’ representative for comment.

Cassie used drugs to stay awake, ‘feel numb’ during ‘freak offs’

During opening statements, one of Combs’ attorneys, Teny Geragos, told the judge and jury that drugs were for “personal use” by Combs and women participating in “freak offs.” Meanwhile, prosecutors have proposed drugs were a means by which Combs would ensure they could “stay awake and perform for him for hours and days on end.”

On May 14, Ventura Fine revealed she had developed an opioid addiction during her decade-long on-and-off relationship with Combs and sought professional help five or six times. The last time she used opiates was in 2022, she said.

Drugs would help make her “feel numb” amid “freak offs” – sexual performances with Combs and escorts that she said lasted as long as four days – which she described as “hell” on her body.

She used drugs like ecstasy during “freak offs” so she could “just remain high and not be present with the experience” because it was “something I hated doing,” she said on May 13. She always took drugs before a freak off, she said.

Chris Brown arrested in UK on ‘bodily harm’ charge

Chris Brown has been arrested in the U.K.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed to USA TODAY on May 15 that a 36-year-old man was arrested at a Manchester hotel just after 2 p.m. on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

While the department does not release names of possible suspects, they confirmed that “the arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square (London)” from Feb. 19, 2023. “The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”

“He has been taken into custody where he remains,” the statement added. USA TODAY reached out to Brown’s representatives for comment.

The Crown Prosecution Service, a government agency overseeing criminal prosecutions, confirmed Brown’s arrest in a May 15 press release. Brown’s first court appearance is scheduled for May 16 at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial,” the agency said. “It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

Chris Brown’s UK arrest mirrors Abe Diaw’s lawsuit allegations

The information provided by police echoes allegations in a lawsuit previously filed by a music producer.

In October 2023, music producer Amadou “Abe” Diaw sued Brown for allegedly “beating him over the head” with a tequila bottle at a nightclub in London, according to a Los Angeles lawsuit reviewed by USA TODAY.

“During the early hours of February 19, 2023, while traveling for his 2023 ‘Under the Influence’ Tour … (Brown) brutally assaulted (Diaw) at TAPE nightclub in London. Wielding a large bottle of Don Julio 1942 Tequila as his weapon, Brown inflicted severe and lasting injuries on (Diaw) when beating him over the head with crushing blows,” the lawsuit alleged.

“As (Diaw) lay unconscious on the floor, Brown continued to ruthlessly stomp on the defenseless (Diaw) for approximately 30 seconds. (Diaw) ended up in the hospital with lacerations on his head and torn ligaments in his leg.”

USA TODAY has reached out to Brown’s attorneys for comment.

Brown’s Breezy Bowl XX World Tour begins June 8 in Amsterdam with support from fellow R&B singer Bryson Tiller.

Chris Brown arrest follows documentary legal drama

The arrest comes months after Brown, 36, took legal action following the release of a documentary that explored his alleged history of violence.

In January, the singer-songwriter sued Warner Bros. Discovery and several others for their role in the production of “Chris Brown: A History of Violence,” a documentary film chronicling Brown’s alleged pattern of abuse. He is seeking $500 million in damages, alleging libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Brown’s star was heavily tarnished in 2009 when fans learned that he had assaulted then-girlfriend Rihanna on the night of the Grammy Awards. Photos showing Rihanna bloodied and bruised after the attack were leaked to the public at the time, forever altering Brown’s reputation and kicking off more than a decade of legal troubles.

Chris Brown’s history of alleged violence

Brown’s history of alleged violence has ratcheted up in recent years.

In 2017, a restraining order was granted to ex-girlfriend and “Claws” actress Karrueche Tran, mandating that Brown stay away from her after she alleged that he was abusive toward her.

In 2018, an anonymous accuser represented by women’s rights lawyer Gloria Allred sued Brown, alleging he had trapped her in his home and forced her to perform sex acts for his friends. In 2019, the singer was accused of raping a woman in Paris, but he was released without charges. This was followed by a July 2024 lawsuit, which alleged Brown and members of his crew severely assaulted four men after a concert in Texas.

Beyoncé’s Chicago show sees delays due to severe weather, per reports

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter won’t be hitting the stage for her “Cowboy Carter” concert in Chicago anytime soon, because the show has been delayed due to severe weather in the area.

Beyoncé was set to perform at Soldier Field on May 15 for the first night of her Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin’ Circuit Tour there at 7 p.m. CT. However the director of marketing and PR for the venue, Luca Serra, reportedly announced the concert would “absolutely” not start before 9 p.m. due to severe storms.

According to CBS News, Serra said, “We’re monitoring the weather and will continue to share updates.”

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for a county outside Chicago with the possibility of wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph and hail. Meanwhile, a tornado watch had been issued in McHenry County until 10 p.m, according to local weather reports.

The doors were set to open at 5 p.m. CT, but fans at the venue have been spreading the word via social media that fans with VIP tickets won’t be permitted into the venue before 8:30 p.m. CT.

As of 8:30 p.m., fans were required to evacuate the venue with many remaining in the covered concourse area.

The Grammy-winning singer was expected to perform her “Cowboy Carter” tour at Soldier Field a total of three nights. The remaining shows are set for May 17 and May 18 on the same stage.

Of course, Beyoncé first debuted the highly anticipated show at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 28 with 39 songs on the set list. She performed a total of five shows there with each taking place on April 28, May 1, May 4, May 7 and May 9. The concerts proved to be revolutionary spectacle filled with fashion, different music genres and most notably country music and politics.

The nine-city tour will span the U.S. and Europe with the grand finale taking place in Las Vegas on July 26. Beyoncé has already made history with her scheduled tour dates, including by playing the most dates at SoFi Stadium of any artist.

  • Smokey Robinson under investigation in LA for sexual assault

Smokey Robinson under investigation in LA for sexual assault

    play

More than a week after four former housekeepers sued Smokey Robinson and accused him of sexually abusing them for years, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has opened an investigation into the 85-year-old singer.

“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau is actively investigating criminal allegations involving William Robinson AKA ‘Smokey Robinson,’” an LASD spokesperson said in a statement to USA TODAY. “The investigation is in the early stages, and we have no further comment.”

In a statement to USA TODAY, Smokey Robinson’s attorney, Christopher Frost, said they “welcome” this investigation and “feel confident” that the R&B and soul singer would be cleared of wrongdoing.

“We are aware that a police report has now been filed by the Plaintiffs in the civil lawsuit. It is clear to us what is happening here. Plaintiffs filed a police report only after they filed a $50 million lawsuit. This means only that the police are now required to investigate,” Frost said. “We welcome that investigation, which involves Plaintiffs who continue to hide their identities, because exposure to the truth is a powerful thing.

“We feel confident that a determination will be made that Mr. Robinson did nothing wrong, and that this is a desperate attempt to prejudice public opinion and make even more of a media circus than the Plaintiffs were previously able to create,” the statement continued. “The record will ultimately demonstrate that this is nothing more than a manufactured lawsuit intended to tarnish the good names of Smokey and Frances Robinson, for no other reason than unadulterated avarice.”

John Harris and Herbert Hayden, the attorneys representing the four anonymous accusers, said in a statement to USA TODAY that “we are pleased to learn that the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept has opened a criminal investigation into our clients’ claims of sexual assault against Smokey Robinson.”

The statement continued, “Our clients intend to fully cooperate with LASD’s ongoing investigation in the pursuit of seeking justice for themselves and others that may have been similarly assaulted by him.”

TMZ was first to report the news.

What is Smokey Robinson accused of doing?

In a civil lawsuit filed May 6 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the women – who used Jane Doe aliases – alleged Robinson assaulted each of them numerous times inside his home while they were carrying out their duties as housekeepers. These incidents eventually forced each of them to resign from working at his Los Angeles-area home, according to the lawsuit.

Most of the Jane Does described fear of reprisal and “the possible adverse effect on her immigration status” if they were to report the incidents to law enforcement.

In addition to leveling accusations of labor law violations, the lawsuit also alleged Smokey’s wife, Frances Robinson, perpetuated the hostile work environment and failed to prevent the alleged assaults “despite having full knowledge of his prior acts of sexual misconduct.”

Jane Doe 1 claimed in the lawsuit that Robinson raped her numerous times during her employment with the singer, which reportedly lasted from January 2023 to February 2024.

Jane Doe 2 said she’d worked for Robinson and his wife from about May 2014 until February 2020. According to the lawsuit, Doe was repeatedly subjected to Robinson’s “brutal sexual advances,” which allegedly began in the latter half of 2016. She said Robinson assaulted her at least 23 times.

Jane Doe 3, allegedly employed by the couple from about February 2012 to April 2024, claimed Robinson raped her at least 20 times throughout her employment.

Jane Doe 4, who allegedly worked for the couple from about October 2006 to April 2024, said the musician first sexually assaulted her in 2007, setting off a years-long cycle of sexual assault.

Smokey Robinson’s lawyer accuses women of ‘trying to extract money from an 85-year-old American icon’

An attorney for Robinson denied the allegations in a statement provided to USA TODAY on May 7.

“As this case progresses, the evidence (the crucial element that guides us) will show that this is simply an ugly method of trying to extract money from an 85-year-old American icon — $50 million dollars, to be exact,” the attorney, Christopher Frost, said, adding that the allegations are “vile” and “false,” and “we will be asking the court to dismiss the lawsuit.”

Robinson’s attorney went on to slam the “vile, false allegations against Mr. and Mrs. Robinson,” alleging the accusers are trying to create a “media circus.” Without providing specifics, Frost also alleged that numerous aspects of the complaint “defy credulity” and that there are “issues relating to purported timelines, inconsistencies, and relationships between the plaintiffs and others.”

“We ask anyone following this case to reserve judgment as the evidence comes to light and all the actual facts of the case unfold,” Frost said, noting that “in time,” Robinson will “respond in his own words.”

Snoop Dogg drops new album, addresses Trump inauguration performance

Snoop Dogg has a question for critics.

The West Coast rap legend, 53, released his surprise album, “Iz It a Crime,” on May 15. Snoop Dogg said the project’s title was partly a retort to the public scrutiny he faced in the wake of his performance during President Donald Trump’s inaugural events earlier this year, according to Rolling Stone and the New York Post.

“I felt like there was a lot of unanswered questions over the past six months and I just wanted to answer them through my music,” he said at an album preview event in New York City on May 13, the Post reported.

On the fourth song, “Unsung Heroes,” the rapper spits: “Life’s a game of spades, better keep a Trump card / You ain’t used to Hell’s Kitchen, get the hell out /Me and Dre at the SoFi, the only way I sell out.”

He continues, “A lot of knee jerk reactions, false information/ (expletive) that, I’m at the house on the PlayStation / Dancing with these dead presidents, the real inauguration / Too many (expletive) playing with my reputation / To step on our turf, you need an invitation.”

The 21-track album, released on Death Row Records, includes features from Pharrell Williams, Sexyy Red, Wiz Khalifa, and LaRussell.

Snoop spoke out against Trump in the past

Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., and other hip-hop artists, including Soulja Boy and Rick Ross, came under fire for performing at Trump’s Crypto Ball in Washington, D.C.

The event was intended to honor “America’s first ‘crypto president,’” according to its website. While Trump wasn’t in attendance, the president’s crypto czar David Sacks served as emcee.

Snoop’s decision was shocking to fans, as he had previously criticized rappers for performing for Trump. In a 2017 Instagram video, he said he would “roast” the next rapper who performs for Trump. The same year, he also took a dig at the president in a music video and called him a “clown.”

During an appearance on “The Breakfast Club” this week, Snoop clarified that he decided to do the Crypto Ball gig for Sacks, whom he said is his friend of 15 years.

“I’m not a politician. I don’t represent the Republican Party. I don’t represent the Democratic Party. I represent the (expletive) Gangster Party point blank period,” he said. “We don’t explain (expletive), so that’s why I didn’t explain, that’s why I didn’t go into detail when (expletive) was trying to cancel me and say ‘he’s a sellout.’”

Pamela Anderson is baring it all about going bare face.

The model and Baywatch alum recently opened up to People magazine about her turn to natural glam over the past two years.

“People come up to me daily; at the grocery store, on the beach, on my walks,” Anderson said in the story published May 15. “People are like, ‘Thank you so much for doing this,’” noting the look resonates with “a lot of people.”

The “Last Showgirl” actress was speaking to the outlet about her skincare brand Sonsie, which has a cult following, after she recently wore natural glam (and new bangs) to the Met Gala on May 5.

“I think that sometimes we have to come back to ourselves and peel it all the way to remember who we are, what our original thoughts are, what our dreams and aspirations are,” Anderson said about going makeup-free. “So this is all part of it, it’s coming back to who you are and wherever you are in your beauty journey.”

But the “Love, Pamela” author said she’s “not opposed to makeup,” adding that “I love glam, I love all of that” and “I love creating characters on film or in theater.”

Pamela Anderson started going makeup-free in 2023

The “Baywatch” bombshell has peeled back the layers of her personal life in recent years, seen by some fans as a revision of her previous Hollywood reputation as a sex symbol.

Her fresh-faced glow has impressed many since she started transitioning away from makeup on red carpets in 2023 (and kicked off a “natural beauty revolution,” in the words of her “Showgirl” co-star Jamie Lee Curtis).

In October of that year, she told Vogue France she hopes that she can help model the multitude of ways women can express themselves.

“I’m not trying to be the prettiest girl in the room,” she said. “I feel like it’s just freedom. It’s a relief.”

Then, at the 2024 Gotham Film Awards, Anderson told People that she hasn’t completely removed makeup from her life.

“I love to wear makeup too sometimes,” she said. “It has a time and a place. I just feel in my personal life, it just didn’t really make sense.”

Teddi Mellencamp is giving a glimpse into her cancer recovery journey.

The former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, who shared earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in her brain and lungs, revealed during a May 14 episode of her podcast that her body was responding to treatment, but she’s not out of the woods just yet.

“Last time, they had checked solely my brain, and those tumors are shrinking,” she said on “Two Ts In a Pod,” the show she co-hosts with fellow “Real Housewives” alum Tamra Judge. “Then, today I had the scan, where they checked my lungs and they are shrinking and one of them has shrunk so much you can barely even see it.”

While she said her “body is responding to everything,” Mellencamp, 43, did reveal that she will need to rely on immunotherapy for the next two years.

“So every four weeks for the next two years, I have to come in and get that done,” said Mellencamp. “And then every three months I get another scan and we check to make sure that everything is where it is.”

Immunotherapy refers to a tactic used by doctors to help a person’s immune system fight cancer by stimulating it so that it can identify and attack cancerous cells.

The reality star, who is daughter to rocker John Cougar Mellencamp, revealed in April that after undergoing treatment, several of her tumors had “shrunk or disappeared.”

“Doctors believe I will be healed if everything stays on course,” Mellencamp wrote on Instagram at the time. “Thank you to everyone who has sent their love, prayers, and positivity.”

Mellencamp, who has been open with fans about her journey, previously told USA TODAY that a positive mindset has been key to her recover.

“I’m feeling positive, but I also would say that my mood and my overall energy level shifts by the hour,” she said. “There’s moments of fear and there’s moments of whatever, but as long as I’m moving my body and taking action, then I seem to be in a more positive mindset.”
